1. Conditions for Contributions
Only members of The Japanese Society of Health and Human Ecology are eligible to contribute manuscripts. Contributed manuscripts must be neither previously published nor under consideration elsewhere.
2. Categories of manuscript considered
Review:
A manuscript that reviews and explains the findings and study performance obtained so far for a specific theme in the field of health and human ecology.

Original Article:
A manuscript written on a topic within the scope of The Japanese Society of Health and Human Ecology that employs appropriate methodology, is original and novel, as well as of recognizable scientific value.

Material of Reference:
A manuscript that provides data that serves as important material of reference in the field of health and human ecology.

Opinion:
A manuscript in which the author from a professional point-of-view describes personal opinions, and/or gives suggestions and proposals about various problems in the field of health and human ecology.
3. Title Page Requirements
The manuscript should have a title page that includes the following items: the manuscript category (Review, Original Articles, Resource, Expert Opinion, the title in Japanese, the title in English, around five keywords (given in Japanese and English), the number of tables and figures included, author names in Japanese and English, affiliations in Japanese and English, and the corresponding authorfs name, address, postal code, telephone number, and email address. Also, indicate the number of reprints requested at author expense (in units of 100 copies) and give any messages to the editor in red font.
4. Delivery of Manuscript
Send the original manuscript (including abstract, tables and figures, photographs, etc.) and three photocopies, along with an electronic media (e.g., floppy disk and CD-ROM) containing files (text files) of the same content as the printed copies of the manuscript by registered mail to the following address.

5. Return of Manuscripts
Submitted manuscripts will not be returned.
6. Editorial Decisions
The editorial committee intensively reads the contributed manuscripts and makes a decision to accept or reject. For accepted manuscripts, the author will receive notice of acceptance. We will return the floppy disk, and the author should prepare a final revised manuscript, save it to the electric media send it together a printed copy of the manuscript to the editors.
7. Proofs
The author will do the first proofreading. No additions and deletions by the author are accepted during the proof.
8. Abstract
Manuscripts in Japanese should have an abstract in Japanese and be accompanied by an abstract in English (around 200 words). Manuscripts in English should have an abstract in English (around 200 words) and be accompanied by an abstract in Japanese (within 800 letters).
9. Manuscripts in English
Manuscripts in English should be on A4 paper with double spaced type. Authors whose first language is not English are strongly urged to have their manuscripts checked by a native English speaker who is familiar with the topic of the paper. For any manuscript lacking such a certificate and which has been judged to have problems with the English such that it can not be published as is, will have to be resubmitted after the English is edited at an institute designated by the editorial committee. The cost for the proofreading in such cases will be borne by the author.
10. Manuscripts in Japanese
Manuscripts in Japanese should be prepared on 400-letter B5 or A4 manuscript paper, using simple sentences and clear characters. For text in a foreign language, write or type in block letters. For manuscripts prepared on a word processor, writ horizontally on A4 paper with 20 lines per sheet and 36 letters per line.
11. Manuscript Layout
Manuscripts (Review, Original Articles, Resource, Expert Opinion) should have an Abstract, followed by the Introduction (state the objective of the study), Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, and Reference sections.
12. Headings
Headings should not be as "Chapter I", "Section I", but should be I. 1. 1), (1), ‡@, and so on.
13. Tables and Figures
Tables and figures should be presented on separate pages and the placement of tables and figures in the manuscript should be specified in red in the margins of the printed copy. The figures should be numbered as Fig. 1, Fig. 2, and so on. The Tables should numbered as Table 1, Table 2, and so on. The figures and tables should each be accompanied by a title placed below each figure or above each table. Original figures should be less than A4 size and be drawn clearly in black ink on a white paper or printed with a printer. Only clear photographs in black and white are accepted. When a submitted figure or table is not suitable for publishing, the author should newly prepare the figure or the table, and bear the actual costs for the preparation.
14. Footnote
Please refrain from inserting footnotes as far as possible.
15. Citation of Literature
Citation of literature in the manuscript should be done as follows for one author (Example 1), two authors (Example 2), and three or more authors (Example 3). In the case of multiple citations published in the same year by the same author, letters ("a", "b",...,) after the year are used to distinguish entries (Example 4 and Example 5).

16.How to List References
References should be arranged not in order of appearance in the manuscript, but in the alphabetical order by authorsf name without distinguishing between journal or book references. References by the same author should be listed in order of year of publication.

17. Reference entries
Reference entries follow these basic rules:

1) For Journals
Name of the author (year issued): manuscript title, name of journal, volume (No.), pages cited
For a translated book, the name of the original author, the name of the journal, and the number of the journal should also be listed.
When there are four or more authors, the first three authors should be listed and add "others" (in English language, "et al.") for the other authors.

18. Abbreviation of Journal Names
When abbreviating journal names, use the commonly used abbreviations listed in a recently issued Japana Centra Revuo Medicina (database) , List of Journals Indexed in Index Medicus, or Ulrich's International Periodicals Directory.
19. Rapid Publication
Authors who wish for their contributions to be considered for rapid publication can transfer JP\20,000 as a contribution fee to the "Editorial Office of Nihon Minzoku Eisei Gakkai (The Japanese Society of Health and Human Ecology)" through ordinary deposit account number 5156942 of the Ikebukuro-Nishiguchi Branch of the Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi UFJ, and mark the contributed manuscript with "Urgent Contribution".
20. Discount for Students
Contributors who are students in an undergraduate or graduate program are eligible for a 50% discount on printing fees (excluding the cost for reprints) when written evidence of student status is presented along with the submitted manuscript.
